Sometimes it’s hard enough for me to come up with meal ideas, let alone snacks — and yesterday’s Weight Watcher meeting was allll about snacking the smart way! The concept of Weight Watchers is to help us succeed out there in the real world, so aside from the three meals we are supposed to eat each day, the program also provides us “Anytime” sections of our day when we need to refuel or tide us over until the next meal.
Snacks should be between 2 and 8 points, depending on how many dailies you get — someone in the 26-39 points should designated 2-4 points for snacks, while those in the 40-70 range can use 5-8 points, on average, between meals.
One of my problems most days is forgetting to eat healthy snacks. If I do snack, it’s usually because I did something wrong at my previous meal and I become famished and lazy — which translates to scouring the pantry for my hidden stash of cookies or something equally has high point value. I also want GOOD snacks. I’ m not going to be satisfied munching on carrot sticks every day, so I need a variety of options that will satisfy my crunchy, sweet, salty or creamy moods throughout the day and still stay on plan.
After the Weight Watchers meeting yesterday, I came away with a few easy snacks that I surprisingly already had in my refrigerator and pantry.
Easy snack ideas that were tossed around included:
- Laughing cow cheese wedges and apple
- Oh So Nut bar and banana
- Almonds and fruit
- Serving size of chocolate chips and glass of skim milk
- String cheese wrapped in deli meat and lettuce leaf
- Celery and peanut butter, hummus or light dip
- Multigrain crackers and WW or light cream cheese spread
These easy snack ideas are a great foundation to having healthy options in the house and they have already helped me. Yesterday, I snacked on a string cheese and apple, today it was unsweetened applesauce and a hard boiled egg.
